Philosophy Department courses are designed to enable students to understand the philosophical tradition and to cultivate critical thinking. The program serves the needs of those interested in philosophy as part of a liberal education and prepares philosophy majors for work in graduate programs. Most courses numbered 101 and below are suitable as first courses in philosophy. The philosophy program is offered in cooperation with the other Claremont Colleges.
